Avandia: Know The Side Effects

A popular diabetes drug Avandia has been linked to serious side effects including heart attacks and congestive heart failure, among others. The FDA, on June 6, 2007, required the makers of Avandia to put a strong warning on the drug to warn users about these side effects. Avandia users, and family members of users, who suffered side effects while taking the drug may be entitled to compensation.

Avandia is the popular diabetes drug manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline. What are the risks of an Avandia heart attack? Report links Avandia to a 43% increased risk of heart attack and a 64% increase in the risk of death from all cardiovascular causes, for users taking the diabetes drug.

In type 2 diabetes, the body does not produce enough insulin or the body is less sensitive to insulin. Avandia reduces the body's resistance to insulin but also causes fluid retention, a risk factor for congestive heart failure.
