FlantR: Flaunt It Real Good

FlauntR is anew tool that is almost everything you could want in a photo editor. Those that know me can attest that when it comes to computing platforms, I tend to go over economy and quantity over quality. I have many desktop systems, all clocking in at or around 1 Ghz, and with varying amounts of RAM that tend to satisfy the minimum hardware requirements of the $9.00 rack of software at your favorite retailer.

Flauntr actually offers three web-application solutions for photo editing: PhotoStylr, PhotoEditr, and PhotoProfilr. Each one is different in it’s approach to photo editing, and all three are free to use under one single site login.

Microsoft & Facebook: Bosom Buddies

Microsoft has officially taken a $240 million equity stake in Facebook during its next round of financing, valuing Facebook at $15 billion, not million but billion

"We are pleased to take our Microsoft partnership to the next level," Owen Van Natta, vice president of operations and chief revenue officer at Facebook, said in a statement. "We think this expanded relationship will allow Facebook to continue to innovate and grow as a technology leader and major player in social computing, as well as bring relevant advertising to the more than 49 million active users of Facebook."

Microsoft will be the exclusive third-party advertising partner for Facebook and the Microsoft ads will expand beyond the U.S. to Facebook's international presence. For those of you who don't already know, Facebook is a Palo Alto, Calif.-based social-networking site. The advertising deal does not appear to have expanded beyond the current 2011 expiration date.

With Microsoft and Facebook's strategic alliance, they are a force to be reckoned with. Two heads are better than one, especially in the social networking industry.

Blockbuster: A Little Help From My Friends

Movielink offers digital movie downloads to play on your computer, dvd player, video iPod, and soon to be released on the PSP and other mobile devices.

Founded in 2002, Movielink is backed by Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and Warner Bros. Studios.

For Blockbuster, the acquisition comes during one of the company's low points. Competition from cable providers offering video-on-demand and DVD-rental services including Netflix have cut into profits. With Movielink and Blockbuster total access, Blockbuster should see an increase of market share of competitors. Keeping up with the times is the mission of Blockbuster and so far they have achieved it with a little help from its friends.

"Blockbuster is committed to keeping pace with the changing needs of customers by offering them an expanding array of convenient ways to access entertainment content," said Jim Keyes, Blockbuster Chairman and CEO. "
