Google Takes Lion's Share

Market research firm ComScore said Google's search market share is up to 58.5% percent of the U.S. market in October, from 57% in September.

The top five Web search providers showed at least 5 percent growth in the total number of queries in October. Yahoo was number two after Google, followed by Microsoft, and then Ask.com and AOL.

According to Andrew Lipsman a ComScore spokesman, "They are all growing in the number of search queries but Google is taking a disproportionate share."

On Tuesday, broker Credit Suisse set a $900 price target on Google, he argues that Google will monopolize search resulting in a large price increase in Google stock.

At the end of trading on Wednesday, Google shares rose more than 3 percent to $670 per share before returning to $666.50, up 2.8 percent. Yahoo shares fell 3.1 percent to $25.87, and Microsoft stock was at $34.39.
